We are a community with two villages. The ancient one, Zambana Vecchia (Old Zambana), at the foot of the Paganella mountain, and the contemporary one, Zambana.
Few know that one of the oldest prehistoric female burials in the Alpine arc was discovered in Zambana Vecchia, and that, still here, if you observe the mountain carefully, you can see the remains of houses inhabited more than two thousand years ago.
In 1956, a large landslide struck the old village and left us with only a few houses and the church of Saints Philip and James, now surrounded by a large protective embankment. Because of this, we built Zambana "Nuova" (New Zambana) a few kilometers away.
Today, you can walk through the streets of the old village, which is coming back to life. Here, in spring, you can see strips of land among the apple orchards: this is where we cultivate white asparagus with the De.Co. (Denominazione Comunale d'Origine - Municipal Designation of Origin) label. Between April and May, you can even try harvesting them with us!
